This is the workshop 9D and 9B must print it to work in class on Wednesday 18th, and 9C for Friday 19th

1.       Complete the sentences using can or (be) able to. Use can if possible; otherwise use (be) able to.
Examples:           George has travelled a lot. He __can__ speak four languages

2.       Complete the sentences with can – can’t – could – couldn’t + one of the verbs

Example:

3.       Complete the sentences using could – couldn’t or (be) able to. Careful with the tense!

c.       My grandmother loved music. She ________________________ play the piano.

4.       Put in must or can’t
Example:             You’ve been travelling all day. You __must__   be tired.

a.       That restaurant ________________________ be very good. It’s always full of people
b.      That restaurant ________________________  be very good. It’s always empty
c.       It rained every day during their holiday. So they ________________________  have had a very nice time.
d.      You got here very quickly. You ________________________  have walked very fast.

5.       Write these sentences in a different way using may or might.
Example:             Perhaps Margaret is in her office. _She might be in her office_

6.       Write sentences with may or might.
Example:                Where are you going for your holidays? (to Ireland)
                                   I haven’t decided  yet. __I may go to Ireland  .

a.       What sort of car are you going to buy? (a Mercedes)

b.      What are you doing this weekend? (go to London)

7.       Complete the sentences with must, mustn’t or needn’t
Examples:         We haven’t got much time. We __must__ hurry.
                              We have plenty of time. We ­­__needn’t__ hurry.

a.       We have enough food at home so we ____________________ go shopping today.
b.      Jim gave me a letter to post. I ____________________ remember to post it.
c.       There’s plenty of time for you to make up your mind. You____________________decide now.
d.      You ____________________ wash those tomatoes. They’ve already been washed.
e.      This is a valuable book. You ____________________look after it carefully.

8.       Complete the sentences using needn’t + one of these verbs

9.       Fill in the blanks using modal verbs. Be creative!
